Hey Folks,
First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for joining us for Villains & Villagers. We are so excited about this project and so honored to have you part of this wild ride. This is a major passion project of ours and we are so excited to deliver a great system neutral NPC supplement to you.
Joe and I (Shane) became best friends when we went to a graduate creative writing program together a decade ago. Among all of the writing techniques we learned there, "how to make amazing characters" was among the top. This project has three key sections. The first part contains tips, tricks, and advice - an accumulation of the absolute BEST knowledge on writing NPCs we have from decades of writing, running TTRPGs, and game design. This book will also feature a bunch of random tables for making detailed and interesting NPCs for you game in moments. Are your players asking a lot of questions about the cabbage farmer they just met? Make a couple of quick random rolls to make an interesting character you hadn't even prepped before the game. And finally, the book will include a sleuth of premade NPCs with fascinating secrets, personal lives, possible adventure hooks, and roleplaying tips to make your world come alive.
Villains & Villagers is an ambitious project of ours and has the highest funding goal we've sought yet - which is why we are floored that we roared past it in 75 minutes. Thank you so much to all of our returning backers and to new faces who are just joining us.
If you didn't already see the free NPC Character Sheet download, you can get it from our website here. Feel free to print it at home and use it to keep track of your campaign's NPCs or give to your players as a handout. This is our gift for you just for checking out our project. :)
We are already getting close to our $5,000 stretch goal, which will add three new random tables to the book. We have SO MANY great ideas for stretch goals and we can't wait to reveal them over the next few weeks. We love to hear from you though, so if there is anything you really want to see in this book, let us know!
